Brand Loyalty Pt 2: Is Your Business Community Friendly
And, you will most likely see that the businesses and residents in those communities are friends of the communities. That is to say that they have a vested interest in the community. They want to see the community thrive and grow. They want it to be a vibrant location for all involved. As a local business, they see the need to help the residents; to give, not just take. In a sense, they see themselves more as bees than as locusts. Their job is to pollenate; to take from while at the same putting in.
For a local business, this pollenating mindset has the effect of not only creating loyal customers, but it has the potential of creating a following with the community as its local base of operations. In tough financial times the core values of giving and leadership are vital for the morale and growth of a community. This type of servant leadership has a transforming affect that spreads beyond the local boundaries of the particular community that houes the business. People will want to visit the community and patronize the local businesses. People want to be a part of something bigger than themselves and it is especially the case when they can help a community pull itself out of a difficult situation.
The leadership of a local business whose mindset is to take as much as possible from a community and then move on to a new location can be known beyond the boundaries of that location as well. However, it will not be positive. In the same way locust leave an area barren with little hope of future growth, a company that takes no responsibility in the community play a part in destroying the morale of its residents. These types of local businesses are not friends of the community.
*Proverbs 18:24 KJV
These are tough economic times and loyal customers are getting harder to keep. People will buy from and work with friends. There is a proverb that says, "A man that has friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother."* The question to be answered is whether your business is a friend of the community that you do business in?
