Joliet's Bicentennial Park

The Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park is a historical park sitting on the land that in 1832 was Joliet's first street. It is a product of the joint effort between the City of Joliet and Will County in how they would celebrate the 200th birthday of the Nation in 1976. The 10 acre park resides on the west side of Centeral Joliet's river front, facing Harahs Casino. Located between three historical bridges, Jefferson street, Cass Street and McDonagh street; four if you count the Desplains train bridge.

One thing that stands out about the park is all the events through out the year. Concerts on the Hill, Theactrial productions, Children for peace, Fourth of July fire works, the Boat Show "Waterway Daze,"the "Pumpkin Fest" and many others. The sound of music, the smell of food and the ring of people enjoying the park fills the summer air. Even without an event the park is a wonderful place to visit.  It has a lovely River Walk Promenade, The Veteran's Memorial and Mosaics, and the Bluff street historic walk through Joliet's history and early buildings. Bicentennial Park also offers Kid's programs and is home to the Joliet Drama Guild. The park is a beautiful backdrop for taking wedding photos. But whether or not there is an event The Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park is a great place to have lunch, ride your bike, watch the river roll by as you meditate on deep and not so deep thoughts, it is difficiently one of Joliet's must visit locations.
